Why Sabbit

Surf more, travel less

Sabbit Mentawai is owned and run by local surfers who know these islands and their waves inside out. You get the surf of a charter boat with the comfort of a home on the beach.

Front-line beach

The camp sits less than 15 metres from the sand. Paddle out to E-Bay from the shore or snorkel the reef in front.

Small group

Never more than 14 guests. Come with friends or family and share the line-up with your own crew.

Boats by level

We split surfers into different boats by level, so everyone surfs the waves that suit them. One long and one short session a day, captained by Mentawai locals and always with a surf guide.

All inclusive

Breakfast, lunch and dinner with a fusion of Indonesian and Spanish cooking. Water, coffee and tea all day.

FAQ

Questions before your surf trip

When is the best time to surf the Mentawai Islands?

There are waves all year, but the best season is March to November, when storms in the Southern Ocean send consistent swell. March, April, October and November bring smaller but consistent waves; May to September is the best period for size and consistency. Winds are light and variable most of the year, so many spots work at the same time. The camp is open every year from 15 March to 30 November.

How do I get to Sabbit Mentawai Surf Camp?

Fly to Padang (Minangkabau International Airport, Sumatra) via Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, spend a night in Padang and take the Mentawai Fast ferry to Siberut (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 07:00). Our speedboat picks you up at the ferry and takes you to the camp. A direct private speedboat from Padang is also available on request.

What is included in the surf camp package?

The package is all inclusive: room, breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, unlimited water, coffee and tea, the speedboat transfer from Siberut to the camp on arrival, and two daily boat sessions (one long, one short) to the surf spots with a surf guide. The return transfer to Siberut is not included and costs €50.

What surf level do I need?

There are more than 20 spots within boat range for all levels, from beginners to pros. We split surfers into different boats by level, and our guides choose the spot for each boat according to the swell and the level of the group.

How many guests stay at the camp?

A maximum of 14 guests, so line-ups stay uncrowded and the atmosphere stays relaxed. Rooms: two rooms for three people, one room for four (also suitable for families, with a king-size bed and two single beds), two rooms for couples and one private room with a single bed.

When is the camp open?

Every year from 15 March to 30 November.

How much does a surf trip cost?

All inclusive from €100 per person per night in a room without air conditioning, or €110 per person per night in a room with air conditioning. The return speedboat transfer to Siberut costs €50. Send us your dates on WhatsApp or by email and we will confirm availability.
