Frequently asked questions
The questions our guests ask most often.
When is the camp open?
Every year from 15 March to 30 November.
How much does it cost?
All inclusive from €100 per person per night (room without air conditioning) or €110 per person per night (room with air conditioning). The transfer from Siberut to the camp is included; the return transfer to Siberut costs €50.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Travel medical insurance is mandatory.
What should I check before buying my flight?
Check the Mentawai Fast ferry departures (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) so you do not wait days in Padang and you make the most of your surf days.
How many boards should I bring?
At least two boards, one of them for big waves.
Can I pay by credit card?
No. There are no ATMs in Mentawai and payments are cash only. Bring extra rupiah for Wi-Fi, massages, gifts or photos; the last ATM is in Padang.
Where is Sabbit Mentawai Surf Camp?
On the island of Nyan-Nyan (Pulau Masokut), in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia.
Is it safe?
Each room has its own key and there are safe boxes to store your belongings.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available at the camp for IDR 300,000 per week.
Can I buy drinks at the camp?
We no longer sell drinks, but there is a fridge for guests who want to bring their own drinks and keep them cold.
Do you separate surfers by level?
Yes. We split surfers into different boats by level, so everyone surfs the waves that suit them. This is one of the things our guests value most.
What happens in case of an accident?
For minor accidents there is a health centre 15 minutes away by boat. A serious injury means a 4-hour speedboat transfer to Padang (over €1,000), which is why travel insurance is mandatory.
How many people are in the water?
It depends on how many waves are working that day: from just you and your friends to around 30 people.
What is the weather like?
Unpredictable. Temperatures are around 25–30 °C and you can have two weeks of sunshine or heavy rain.
