Mentawai´s wild state during the Covid 19
Mentawai, one of the most important surf international tourist destinations in the world, returns to its wild state due to COVID-19 and the impossibility of traveling to this destination by thousands of tourists. We go back to the 80s, when tourism began in these islands and until the 90s, surfing did not come to Mentawai.
Almost 30 years have passed since surf came to this reserve and natural paradise and since then it has not stopped welcoming surfers from all over the world and tourism continues to grow every year. Mentawai has something special, it makes you connect with the ocean in different ways, not only as a surfing means , the internet scarce connection, the lack of technology, the absence of trade, offer to us the nature in its purest form, making this destination a magical place, where normally everyone likes to come back for that feeling of being part of it.
Now the situation has changed a lot, as a result of the pandemic we are forced to remain closed and give to our oceans a break, we can only wait, see how the situation evolves and try to continue taking care of our environment and ourselves, before returning to consider traveling to Siberut.
